Dental Fillings

Dental Fillings in Antioch, TN

While we all work hard to keep our teeth healthy and prevent issues from arising, sometimes cavities still occur. Though this can be a defeating experience for someone dealing with their first cavity, the process for removing the decay is fairly simple and painless.

How Are Cavities Treated?

Dental Fillings Antioch TN

When we detect a cavity, the first thing we will want to do is remove the decaying portions of the tooth. For those with minor decay that hasn't reached the inner structures of the tooth, a dental filling is all that’s needed to effectively treat your smile.

Applying a dental filling is non-invasive and is performed under local anesthesia is to reduce any possible discomfort. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, we will use a drill to remove the decay from the outer portion of your tooth. We will test the area to make sure that the decay has been removed, then clean the space to remove any bacteria. Then we will want to fill the tooth to return it to its original shape. This requires the use of a dental filling.

What Are Fillings Made of?

Dental fillings are made from a variety of different materials like gold, silver, ceramic and composite resin. While metal fillings are extremely durable, they don’t offer the same esthetic appeal that other dental fillings do. That’s why we are happy to use composite resin fillings, which are designed to match the color of your tooth to offer a realistic and natural look.

Then the tooth-colored resin is applied to the tooth in several layers. After a new layer is applied we will use a special laser to harden the layer permanently to the tooth. Once this is complete, we will mold the material to ensure the desired shape, then polish it to give the resin a tooth-like sheen.
